چکیده

The latest results in ultrafast data regeneration and wavelength conversion with SMZ-type all-optical semiconductor switches are reviewed. In these operations, the SMZ-type switch is driven by random data pulses. The fastest bit rate reported to date for such input-data-driven all-optical operation has reached 168 Gb/s. With these all-optical devices, we may be able to build 160-Gb/s OTDM nodes for packet communications systems in the near future. OTDM-WDM conversion ≥ 160 Gb/s 10 ~ 200 km O-TDM, Packet (Trunk, Inter-City, Metro) WDM, Point-to-Point (Undersea)

High-speed All- Optical Time Division Multiplexed Node

In future high-speed self-routing photonic networks based on all-optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) it is highly desirable to carry out packet switching, clock recovery and demultplexing in the optical domain in order to avoid the bottleneck due to the optoelectronics conversion. In this paper we propose a self-routing OTDM node structure composed of an all-optical router and demultiplex...

All-Optical Signal Processing for over-100-Gb/s Optical-TDM Networks

1. Current OTDM Component Technology The large and ultrafast optical nonlinearity of millimeter-size semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) has led to the study of several types of gate functions at ultrahigh bit-rates beyond 40 Gb/s. Among these functions, optical demultiplexing has been the most successfully demonstrated with 336 Gb/s RZ signals [1]. The slow-recovery-induced phenomena that ...

High-speed Synchronisation for Optical Packet Networks

Optical regeneration, high-speed synchronisation, OTDM packet network, timing jitter, clock recovery Key Results: Results show serious limitations in the minimum level of jitter tolerable by high-speed regeneration. For 40Gbit/s OTDM (Optical Time Division Multiplexing) transmission the tolerable level of jitter to maintain error-free transmission, is 1.5ps for synchronous regeneration and 1ps ...

Ultra-high-speed optical serial-to-parallel data conversion by time-domain optical Fourier transformation in a silicon nanowire.

We demonstrate conversion from 64 × 10 Gbit/s optical time-division multiplexed (OTDM) data to dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) data with 25 GHz spacing. The conversion is achieved by time-domain optical Fourier transformation (OFT) based on four-wave mixing (FWM) in a 3.6 mm long silicon nanowire. A total of 40 out of 64 tributaries of a 64 × 10 Gbit/s OTDM-DPSK data signal are sim...

Simulation of All-Optical Recirculating Fibre Loop Buffers employing Optical Regeneration

All optical buffering within high-speed optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) based networks is becoming a necessity. In this paper, an active all-optical recirculating fibre loop buffer (RFLB) employing an alloptical regenerator to compensate for pulse distortion is introduced. The OTDM pulse shape is soliton and the data rate used is 20 Gb/s. Simulation results for the bit error rate (BER...
